Our people will scale new heights to help others. And the charity fundraising efforts of the Dee Dee’s Swansea team show — quite literally — how.
Climbing mountains for charity
We’re quite fond of telling everyone who’ll listen just how great our people are. The effort and skill they put into every task make all the difference to our business.
And, thanks to their recent charitable activities, they’ll soon do the same for the brave people across the UK fighting cancer.
So many of our people are passionate about doing their bit for charity, but the Instore team from Dee Dee’s Swansea recently took this to a whole new level. To raise money for Cancer Research UK (Instore’s chosen charity), they scaled the highest mountain in South Wales.
Fund raising to fight cancer
Set in the breath-taking Brecon Beacons National Park, Pen y Fan is 886m high — and quite a trek to get to the top. Yet this is exactly where the Swansea team, led by manager Joanne Johnson, hiked to help others.
If that wasn’t enough, they put together a wide range of fundraising activities — including a raffle and a fancy dress event.
The Swansea team raised more than £1,000 as part of our annual charity drive. This money will help Cancer Research UK’s scientists fund their work. It’s a great achievement, and we’re incredibly proud of them.
Our people make the difference
The team at Dee Dee’s Swansea wasn’t the only one showing its charitable side, though. Our teams across Dee Dee’s, Tesco, Café Nest, Mothercare and Homebase have also set up a series of donation stations — encouraging people to give what they can to help Cancer Research UK.
And their efforts will make a big difference. Across the country, the donation stations have raised more than £6,000 for the charity — bringing Instore’s total for Magical May this year to an amazing £15,900. Instore have contributed a staggering £184,000 since our partnership with Cancer Research UK began eight years ago, helping Compass Group to raise over £2 million.
It just shows the dedication of our people. When they set their minds to a task, they’ll get the job done, no matter what. And, in this case, they’ve put a lot of hard work into supporting an important cause. We can’t wait to see just how much they raise by the end of their charitable activities…
